State-wise guidelines for safe travel
Select Indian States and UT have enforced specific travel restrictions. Do check applicable rules before travelling.
To curb the spread of Covid-19, numerous restrictions were and are imposed on interstate movement. However, the Covid e-pass has provided relief for essential travel across state borders. The nationwide lockdown continues in all parts of the country but various state governments have eased restrictions on interstate movement in case of emergencies, medical issues or travelling to one’s hometown. For a swift interstate movement, a Covid e-pass or a movement pass is mandatory. The Covid e-pass acts as a legal document providing permission to cross state borders under special circumstances. Travelling without a valid Covid e-pass or misusing the e-pass can lead to severe consequences. However, if someone has to cross the state border to catch a flight or train, then Covid e-pass is not required as long as the person has a confirmed flight/train ticket.
Although, with the initiation of nationwide Lockdown 5, the Central government has lifted all restrictions from interstate movement and the Covid e-pass is not required any more. However, it solely depends on the state/UT government to regulate the movement at its borders. The state-wise lockdown Covid e-Pass or Movement Pass can be applied via the central government’s website - http://serviceonline.gov.in/epass/ - developed by the National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
